Meet Our 2024 Summer Intern Cohort

We had the amazing opportunity to have a 2024 Summer Intern Cohort! Interns support us in making our mission a reality by working alongside our staff in development and distribution roles. We also provide interns with valuable professional experience, helping them achieve their goals and preparing them for their future paths. We’re so grateful to have welcomed an intern back, and that two new faces joined us!

Ava (she/her)

Ava first joined us as a Teens In Public Service (TIPS) Intern, and we kept her on with our team all through her senior year of high school and is ecstatic about being back with us this summer! Now, she’s a part of the Jackson Munro Public Service Fellowship through the University of Washington’s CELE Center. Ava’s goals for this internship were to boost youth involvement, share more civic engagement opportunities, and continue advocacy work with RVFB. Ava’s career interests are in public policy, mathematics, and computer science. One of her favorite experiences has been flying a plane at a past summer camp!

Katrina “Kitts” (she/her)

Katrina was a Teens In Public Service (TIPS) Intern who was excited to lend a hand and learn more about our community. She helped us with our Backpack Program, packed bags for Home Delivery, helped guests at our Mobile Markets, and tabled at different community events with our Outreach Coordinators. Some of her goals for this internship included learning more about local resources, working with different non-profits, and having a hands-on experience while working with our neighbors in South Seattle.

Kitts is interested in studying psychology after high school. She wants to learn more about how our brains work and educate herself on mental illnesses.

Outside of a work or school setting, you may find her playing roller derby, singing, doing crafts, or swimming (she’s on her school’s dive team)!

Khiem (he/him)

Khiem was also a Teens In Public Service (TIPS) Intern! He packed and organized bags for Home Delivery, set up and assisted guests at our Mobile Markets, helped guests place food orders through our new Tri-River Market, and did research projects related to food insecurity in South Seattle. He appreciates the support of our team, who have helped his personal and professional growth, and is happy that he developed more leadership skills during his time with RVFB. He was interested in understanding more about food insecurity, community outreach, and mastering new operational tasks. After high school, he plans to study Computer Science. In his free time, you can find him playing soccer and volleyball!

If you’re interested in learning more about our TIPS interns’ time at our food bank, you can read Kitts’s story and Khiem’s story on the TIPS website.
