10 Nonprofits to Support this Holiday Season
Our food bank has become a hub where South Seattle social service providers come together to serve our neighbors. Join us in spreading the spirit of generosity this season by making an additional gift to uplift our service partners.
People’s pop-up pantry
People’s Pop-Up Pantry has been a trusted and beloved community partner of Rainier Valley Food Bank for years! They distribute food to 50 – 70 families in Seattle’s Central District in addition to residents living in the tiny home villages in their neighborhood. They also run a 12-week Teen Chef Program where teens learn how to prepare nutritious meals for themselves and their families.
Food not Bombs
A self-described “ragtag group of fine individuals who believe in a kinder world,” Seattle Food Not Bombs serves two weekly hot meals every Saturday and Sunday in Pioneer Square, in addition to stocking community fridges with groceries and hosting pop-up free markets. They are always looking for volunteers and food donations!
Reach
We love our friends at REACH! Every Friday, they join us onsite to build relationships with folks experiencing homelessness and connect them to any resources they need – from food, clothing, medical care, and shelter to mental health and/or substance use treatment. Their team meets folks where they are and work alongside them to meet their personal goals and unique needs.
Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC)
RBAC is a grassroots, Black-led organization committed to supporting locally driven development. From education and living wage jobs to housing and building economic capacity in our neighborhood, they work to build a more connected and equitable community so we may all thrive together.
Real Escape from The Sex Trade (REST)
REST provides a holistic continuum of care for victims and survivors of sex trafficking and those who are involved in the sex trade.
Community Loaves
Established in April 2020, soon after the pandemic began, Community Loves is a grassroots home-based volunteer brigade of committed bakers who have come together to bake bread for community food pantries. Our guests love the Honey Oat Sandwich Loaves they deliver to RVFB every week. To date, they have baked and donated nearly 8,000 loaves! They are always looking for new bakers to join their efforts.
NW Justice Project (NJP)
NJP provides free legal assistance to low-income community members across the state to address basic human needs from housing, and family safety to health care, education, and so much more.
Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI)
LIHI provides housing and support services to low-income and unhoused community members in Washington state. They operate several Tiny Home Villages in and around Seattle, including their newest addition (Henderson Village) behind our building.
NW Immigrants Right Project (NWIRP)
NWIRP provides free legal representation to thousands of immigrants in Washington state, helping navigate our complex immigration system to obtain legal immigration status and protections.
West Side Baby
Diapers are essential and yet very expensive for families to afford. Thanks to our partnership with WestSide Baby, we are able to provide our guests with diapers regularly. WestSide Baby is committed to ensuring that the basic needs of every child in our community are met by providing essential items like diapers, car seats, and clothing.
