Time to Make Every Penny Count, Kiddos!
A classroom of kindergartners at Hawthorne Elementary School totally melted our hearts on Valentine’s Day. In just over a month, they collected more than $350 that will help us buy lots of fresh produce for our hungry neighbors. (Check out our Facebook photo galleries of Room 2’s coin-counting party and our Valentine’s Day visit.) Way to go, kids! And thanks to their awesome teacher, Katie Kribbs, for helping us pull it off.
Now … all you kiddos who haven’t had a chance to turn in your coin cans yet. We know how time flies when you’re juggling homework and playdates and all that. So we’re extending the deadline until February 28.
If it’s not convenient to drop your kids’ coin cans off at the food bank, you can count up your total and make an online donation or send us a check, payable to Rainier Valley Food Bank (4205 Rainier Ave S., Seattle, WA 98118). Here’s an instruction sheet with more details, including info about cool prizes we’re giving out to our top three fundraisers.
If you didn’t ‘have time to fill up your can, or lost it or something totally understandable like that, you can still give to Every Penny Counts.
This is our first kid-centric fundraiser, and not matter how much money we raise, we are glad to be getting youngsters in our community thinking about hunger and the role they can play in ending it.
